The 11th Competition, official name: SASUKE2003春 (literally SASUKE 2003 Spring) is the first competition in 2003. Preliminary trials were held in Taiku Ookoku in the Monkey Bars event. This was the first time trials were held to send people to compete. The top three from the event got a chance to compete in SASUKE 11, most notably was third place finisher, Kobayashi Shinji. The Rolling Maruta was particularly ruthless in this tournament, eliminating over 40 people including ten straight people from #4 to #13. Numbers 95-100 all cleared, including all of the SASUKE All-Stars for the first time in history. The results of the first were greatly better than in SASUKE 10, with more than double the First Stage clears between the two tournaments. It is also the first time since Akiyama Kazuhiko's kanzenseiha that there were double digit clears. Three and a half years after that kanzenseiha, Akiyama finally beat the First Stage, clearing with only 0.03 seconds left. He would eventually make it all the way to the Third Stage before falling at the Body Prop. Also, for the first time since the Third Stage redesign in SASUKE 9, the Third Stage was cleared, this time by Nagano Makoto. This would be the first of three consecutive Final Stage attempts.
